The countdown to Christmas is in full swing!! Do you have a fun way to countdown in your home?

I’d love to share my simple idea for creating an Advent Calendar for the family to enjoy all month long! It’s not super fancy, but the idea is to block off some time each day to open and find something special together as a family!

Here’s what we did to create our simple Advent Calendar:

First, gather up your supplies!

  • Some baking twine or jute rope, something sturdy enough to hold all those surprises! Target Dollar Spot for the win on the rope with the clothes pins included!
  • Gather treat bags or envelopes to hold the treats inside for each day! I just loved the little cards from Hearth & Hand with Magnolia I found at Target! (Follow the link to order some!)
  • Tags for labeling the days in December
  • Clothes pins for hanging (or you can use more twine/rope to tie them to your string)
Next, fill those treat bags with fun stuff! You can fill your Advent Calendar with their favorite candy, or 25 Christmas movies to watch together or mix it up like I do! I sprinkle in Christmas chocolates, our favorite Christmas stories to read, and good deeds we can do together as a family!
It doesn’t have to be extravagant, hello, they are about to get a boat-load of presents in a few weeks!! 😉 Just keep it simple and fun!

In our house, this is just another way to talk about the true meaning of Christmas & having some good family fun!

The days leading up to Christmas can be busy, and hopefully this will help you carve out some quality time together, all month long!

Do you have Advent Calendar ideas that you love? I’d love to hear about them! I hope you have a great time together as a family, finding those sweet & simple surprises each day!

Hope you have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year too!
