As I look back over the past 11 years since our boys were born, I have to pinch myself every now and then because I cannot believe how quickly the time has gone. They say that once you have kids “time flies” and that is definitely the truth!

I remember the day that both boys were born and placed onto my chest just like it was yesterday. Back then time seemed to stand still as I went about my daily tasks of feedings, cleaning spit up, sleep-training, and just trying to remain sane. Getting out the house was more of a chore than a joyful occasion.

Fast-forward 11 years. My boys are 6 years apart so that definitely has been a challenge at times. Overall, I love the age difference between the two boys, and we are at a phase in our life where both boys are enjoying many of the same things. I can give them both LEGOS for any occasion and they are happy as can be!

This year Brady began VPK so having both boys in school has been an adjustment to me. Don’t get me wrong, I love having a quiet house for a few hours each day, but I also find that I have to manage my time wisely. As a blogger, it is so easy to get on the computer and two hours later you still haven’t done a thing. Time management is a big factor to having joy for your journey!

With that being said, I find that when I utilize time management it not only helps me to be a better business person, but it also helps me to be a better parent. I try to start each week by looking at my calendar and planning out each day. I list any meetings or business-related events that need to be taken care of and plan accordingly. I will also list on my calendar any school-related events or other appointments so that I know exactly when they are. Another key element to joy for the journey is to make sure that I leave room for the boys’ events as well as time to spend with each of them and my husband. As the boys are getting older, I find that taking each of them on special “Mommy” dates is becoming even more important and the boys treasure those moments! And, don’t forget about your partner. Dating them is equally important!

Isn’t it so easy to get caught up in the busyness of life that you forget about having joy for the journey? Remember each moment, practice time management and take time out of your schedule for those that you love! You will look back at these years and treasure these times forever. Here’s to joy for your journey!
