Here at The Mommy Spot Tampa, we love to support local mom entrepreneurs so every week we will be featuring a new one. Juggling motherhood and your own business is always a challenge so we want to hear how all of the other mommies handle it. We are very excited to announce Paige Michaelis as this week’s Featured Mompreneur, take the stage Paige…
What is the name of your business and what is your title?
1 Minute Mommy
How many children do you have and what are their ages?
I have two children age almost 9 and 10. Two girls.
Are you a native to Tampa? If not, tell us why and when you relocated here.
I moved here from San Francisco in 2004 for my husband’s company.
Tell us about your company and how you became a mompreneur.
I am a certified parenting coach, speaker and experiential workshop presenter. I teach a program called Positive Discipline which I began using with my own children when they were 2 and 3 years old. The program made such a huge difference in my life that I decided to start sharing the program throughout the TB Area.
What is the best part about being a mompreneur?
The challenge of figuring out how to be successful. Tackling each new phase of the business.
What is the hardest part about being a mompreneur?
Remaining present with my children and family. 🙂
How do you balance motherhood and running your own business?
I take a look at my own behavior. If I am becoming short or cranky at my kids, I know that something is going on for me that needs to be addressed. Perhaps I need to ask for more help or take more time for self care. When I take care of those needs I do much better with balancing my life.
Any tips or advice you would like to offer other mompreneurs (or aspiring mompreneurs)?
Make sure that whatever you are doing, you are doing it because you really want to and that it makes sense for you and your family. What I mean is, for example, just because other people are allowing their children to self wean doesn’t mean that that is necessarily the right decision for you. Take the time to take a look at the choices you make. Will the choice cause you extra stress? Is it putting a strain on your relationship? If so, then don’t do it.
